Experiencing the Life of Street Children

Date: 04/11/2022

The History Department invited World Vision to organize an experiential learning activity for Form 2 students during the OLE Day. In the morning session of the activity, students acted as street children living in less developed countries. They strayed around the streets, scavenging and pickpocketing for a living. Students had to work for money but, at the same time, protect their personal property with their bodies. They also encountered many difficulties, like exploitation by their employers or being caught by the police. It is hoped that students could think from the perspective of a street child with empathy through this experiential activity which could facilitate their understanding of the class reader, Oliver Twist, under our school's Language across the Curriculum Programme.
