S.5 inter-class English debating competition
日期: 13/10/2022
Students from classes 5C and 5S participated in an inter-class English debating competition on 13 October 2022, with the motion, “Science is a threat to human beings”. The competition aimed to equip students with different core generic skills, such as researching, problem-solving, reasoning, evaluating, critical thinking, and teamwork. Most importantly, by presenting English arguments in front of a large audience, they trained themselves to be more confident English speakers.
The competition ended in a tie, with different strengths found in the affirmative team (class 5S) and the negative team (class 5C). The affirmative team showed great effort in their research and therefore presented strong arguments supported by examples, while the negative team showed great confidence and fluency. The English teachers and classmates were impressed by their remarkable performance. Our NETs, Miss Cindy and Mr. Scott reminded students that both arguments and presentations were important in a debating competition. Moreover, they encouraged them to take part in more debating or English-speaking competitions to gain more experience. At the end, the Vice-Principal, Miss Wong, presented prizes to both teams.
