“Green Seedlings Flourish in the North” – Experiencing the Charm of Intangible Cultural Heritage

Organized by the Chinese Department and aligned with this year’s theme reading on Intangible Cultural Heritage, Form One students attended the Cantonese opera performance Green Seedlings Flourish in the North at Yuen Long Theatre on October 28, 2025. Through this immersive experience, students discovered the artistic charm of Cantonese opera and deepened their understanding of cultural inheritance.

The activity not only broadened students’ cultural horizons but also closely connected language learning with life and culture. The singing, recitation, acting, costumes, stage design, and emotional expression in the opera became vivid resources for appreciating Chinese aesthetics and literary imagery.

The Chinese Department will continue to organize diverse activities to cultivate students’ cultural literacy and language proficiency, enabling them to experience the true essence of “literature conveys values, emotions connect hearts.”
