Journey of the Fisherman – Tai O Traditional Sampan Life Interactive Theate

To promote Chinese culture and align with this year’s Chinese subject theme on Intangible Cultural Heritage, Chinese Department organized a special cultural experience for Secondary 2 and 3 students on November 18. Students attended Journey of the Fisherman, an interactive theater performance hosted by the Tai O Cultural Association.Through vivid puppetry, immersive sound effects, and lifelike props, students were transported into the traditional sampan lifestyle of Tai O fishermen. The performance not only showcased the unique cultural landscape and historical evolution of Tai O, but also conveyed the wisdom and resilience embedded in Chinese fishing traditions.The atmosphere was lively and engaging, with students enthusiastically interacting with giant orange fish and octopus puppets. Laughter and awe filled the hall as students experienced a multisensory journey that sparked reflection on cultural identity and heritage.This event deepened students’ understanding of local intangible cultural heritage and inspired a greater sense of appreciation and responsibility toward preserving Chinese traditions.
